Nothing’s more frustrating than not being able to put your own mark on the place you live in, which can be tough when living in a rental with strict rules. It can be doubly aggravating if the place you’re renting isn’t just bland, but has unsightly elements you’d rather not have to see every day.

Creekbend Property Management has provided some decorating ideas for renters who need temporary solutions to making their home look better.

Plants

Getting an assortment of plants throughout your space can make it feel like yours. The plants increase oxygen in your home, creating fresh air throughout. Hanging plants are a great way to add lots of green while not taking up a lot of space.  Add a windowsill of herbs for cooking! Don’t forget plants come in all different shapes and colors; if green isn’t your thing, then get some fragrant, white jasmines to freshen up your space.
Area Rugs

Area Rugs are a great way to protect your floors, add life, and create a cozy atmosphere. There are so many ways hardwood floors can get scratched; putting rugs in the areas with the most traffic can keep your hardwoods looking like new. Even if your space has carpet, getting an area rug can protect that carpet from everyday messes. Another benefit of an area rug is the individuality it can bring to your space. There are millions of different rugs out there.

Furniture

Whether your furniture budget is $50 or $5000, there are millions of pieces perfect for you. Goodwill furniture can be bought and re-done to look like something completely different; this could always be a great DIY project to get you settled into your new space. If you would rather have new furniture, there are so many websites that cater to each and every style, whether it is a Victorian bedroom set or a sleek, modern couch.

Curtains

Though curtains may seem trivial, they add height and style to every room. By placing the curtain rod closer to the ceiling of a room, this creates an illusion of a taller window and higher ceilings. Curtains are a perfect blend of function and style. If you like to sleep when it is light outside, blackout curtains are a great way to make it seem like night time all the time; many stores and websites have also made blackout curtains in so many great patterns and colors. Curtains are also a great way to tie in any color scheme.

Throw Pillows

Decorating with throw pillows may seem like a small part of the design process, but that couldn’t be further from the truth: They’re the best way elevate a house to a home. Even though they are soft and comfortable, they’re not all fluff. When it comes to living room seating, hallway benches, and pretty much anything in the bedroom adding a throw pillow will pack a ton of punch and bring out the subtle design features of the space.

Wall Decals

People have created temporary solutions to boring walls. Stencils add color, shapes, and design to whichever wall you would like. The best part, it comes right off when you decide to move out or get tired of them. There are even chalkboard decals so you can have a chalkboard and remove it a week later if you decide chalk is too messy. If you’re looking for something bigger than a decal, there is now removable wallpaper. The great part is that it is actually removable and super stylish. There isn’t any wear and tear to the wall underneath it.

Creekbend Property Management trusts that any space can and should feel like home. With a little imagination, whether on a budget or not, the blandest space can look like a million bucks!
